Songs come and songs go. Some get lost in the folds of time, while others are passed on and shared in infinitude. For me, every song that comes through has a different color, a different meditation and a different purpose. The songs become my teachers, guiding me along my life journey and through my own consciousness. In that way, over time, I form deep and intimate relationships with each one - some so much so that I choose not to share them publicly.

Unpack Your Memories is a collection of songs that have been in my “vault” for a long time now. Some just didn’t make the other albums and some were just too intimate to share at the time. Now they are ready to breathe and be shared with others. The name of the album says everything … These are all songs that have become memories for me. I am reaching into my bag and unpacking them - unpacking their meaning, the memory of where I was when I wrote them, and the feelings that they brought me so many years ago. As the saying goes, “You never meet the same river twice.” Every time I hear these songs, they teach me something new or offer me the gift of a new perspective.

There are many other songs that are still in my vault, but I felt these were the most important to share at this time. The songs all came up together like the roots of a tree, and have taken form in the EP that you have now. They were not recorded in a big studio with fancy gear, but were recorded on my own laptop, in the company of no one, in the late hours of the night, in the comfort of my room. In this way, they hold a special place in my heart - because when I was writing them it was just Mother and me. She speaks … I listen.

It is my hope that listeners will feel the simplicity and intimacy of the environment that these songs were created in. They came from a pure space and bring back beautiful memories of my life for me. Music can be used as a form of medicine, and sharing the music that comes through me with others has been a very profound mode of healing. Maybe these songs will inspire all of us to unpack our memories and harvest the lessons embedded within them, gifted to us by the Great Spirit. If that be the fruit of these songs, then I would be happy. But we all know we are not supposed to be attached to the fruits :) We just have to sow our work with the seeds of love and leave the rest up to JAH.

Big Love All Around,
