This story misspelled the name of musician Zac Hanson.

The rumors have been confirmed.

Yes, Taylor Hanson's joined a side project, including members of Cheap Trick, Smashing Pumpkins and Fountains of Wayne. The band has named itself Tinted Windows, as reported Wednesday on tulsaworld.com.

No, he is not leaving his brothers or the established music career of the trio's pop-rock act, Hanson.

Taylor Hanson made the news official Wednesday by posting a letter to his fan club via the Hanson.net fan site: "Over the last couple years, Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne and James Iha have been working on this project — we first met Adam years ago when we were making 'Middle Of Nowhere.' "

That longtime friendship turned into a collaboration with Taylor Hanson on vocals, Iha and Schlesinger on bass, and the legendary Cheap Trick member Bun E. Carlos on drums.

"All of us have just sort of made time for the creation of the album when we could over the last couple years, and now it is going to be coming out, with all the trimmings," Hanson wrote.

Those trimmings include an unveiling of the quartet at a live music showcase at the South by Southwest music festival on March 20 at the Pangaea club in Austin, Texas, at a Billboard music showcase, confirmed Billboard online.

Taylor Hanson was quick to clarify, "For me and the other guys in the group this is a great project that is an addition to who we are in our core bands."

In other words, the Hanson brothers are indeed working on a new album, too.

"Over the next couple months the roll out for Tinted Windows project will happen in between the writing and recording sessions we have planned for the new H record. Lots going on in our world ...," he writes at hanson.net.

Also, while at home in Tulsa, the brothers have been busy entertaining Adam Green of the Moldy Peaches and comedic musician Weird Al Yankovic, among others, while working on the Hanson album. Writing and recording is expected to continue over the next few months, Taylor Hanson writes.

Green's MySpace blog chronicles some of the wintertime fun the group had here in Tulsa, going even more in-depth on his blog at tulsaworld.com/The-LakeRoom. Photos chronicle Hanson brothers Taylor, Isaac and Zach sledding with Yankovic, Green and Carl Barât of the music act The Libertines, Yankovic and Green scarfing pizza and Oreo cookies ... and taking time to play guitar and piano with the Hansons
