The Alarm Re-Issuing 'Strength,' Prepping Summer Tour With Modern English, Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel
2/22/2019 by Gil Kaufman
Welsh rockers also have a new album due out on June 28, "Sigma."
The Alarm have a super-busy 2019 in the works. The veteran Welsh rockers will re-issue a remastered version of their classic 1985 album Strength on March 15, followed by a new album, Sigma, on June 28, and a triple-bill North American summer tour with fellow 1980s alt rock veterans Modern English and Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel. Tickets for the tour go on sale today (Feb. 22) here.
"TheSigma Tourwill bring out the best that The Alarm has to offer in the 21st Century, and along with our friends Modern English and Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel, we look forward to taking part in an event that will hopefully, live long in the memory for all our fans." Alarm singer Mike Peters said in a statement. "Fans can expect collaboration, moments of reflection, camaraderie and also the unexpected... Each show will be presented by an in-house MC / DJ and play host to intimate pre-show events that will connect fans to the musicians in a setting away from the spotlight."
Aston added, "We are so excited to be touring the U.S. with our dear friends The Alarm & Modern English. We all go way back back of course. I remember The Alarm & Gene Loves Jezebel regularly playing different nights at the legendary RockGarden in Covent Garden and as a fellow Welshman, I always kept an eye on their incredible progress. We opened for Modern English early on in our career & often bumped into Rob & the lads at our label (Beggars Banquet) in London. Always great fun to see them... It’s actually amazing that we haven’t toured together before!"
The 30-plus date Sigma LXXXV Tour is slated to kick off on July 19 at 3Ten Live in Austin, Texas, and run through an Aug. 29 show at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, N.J.
Before the summer outing, The Alarm will perform a special set at Irving Plaza in New York on Apr. 13 as part of their beloved fan "Gathering" series as well as a show at The Gramercy in New York the night before during which they'll play the same set list they originally performed during a Spirit of '76 show that was broadcast worldwide on MTV on Apr. 12, 1986.
