The Alarm launches US tour with Modern English, Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel in support of new album, "Sigma"
After a headlining show Wednesday in Nashville, veteran Welsh rockers The Alarm launch their full-fledged Sigma LXXXV Tour with Modern English and Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel tonight in Austin, Texas. The trek will visit nearly 40 cities before winding down September 8 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The tour is named after The Alarm's new album, Sigma, which was released June 28. Frontman Mike Peters tells ABC Radio that the record is a sequel to the band's 2018 studio effort, Equals, and notes that the songs for both albums came together while he and his wife, Jules, were dealing with major health challenges.
Peters, who has battled both leukemia and lymphoma over the years, had gone into remission around the time that Jules was diagnosed with breast cancer. The emotional situation inspired him to write.
"I was feeling some intense emotion I needed to get to grips with, so I just used to write [lyrics into my phone], he explains. "And I shared them with Jules, and she said, 'Mike…I think the new Alarm music is in those words.' …And so, I laid them all out and started writing music to those words."
Peters also notes, "When this music was being written, life was uncertain thing for all of us, and we didn't know where we were going to be when the records came out."
Mike and his wife, who also plays keyboards in The Alarm, appear to have weathered the storm, and are now out on the road in the U.S. Throughout the tour, The Alarm is taking social media and their YouTube channel for a podcast and video-blog series called ON>TOUR>AGE that will feature performances, interviews and more.
