Interview: Chris Rene of The X Factor Fame Talks About His New Album
by Garnet Henderson
Simon Cowell might not be the person you’d want to call if
you were looking for a self esteem boost, but he does have quite the
talent for picking out people with that superstar quality. That X
Factor, you might say. (See what I did there?)
The point is, when Simon calls someone a star, it means that person
is worth a second look. And that’s exactly what Simon said (pun
unintended this time) when Chris Rene auditioned for the first American
season of The X Factor. Chris blew the judges away with his risky
choice to perform an original composition for his audition. That song,
“Young Homie,” will appear on his new album, I’m
Right Here. The album is out October 2nd, and we had the chance to
talk with Chris to give you the lowdown before it hits shelves.
Read on to find out why Chris promises you’re going to become
a “Renelian” in the near future.
Crushable: What was it like to be on The X Factor?
Chris Rene: Being on the show, for me, from the moment I got on I
just didn’t know what to expect. I just wanted to show the world
my music, and my songs, and what I’m about. And that there’s
a positive message. And it’s insane. Going up there an hanging
out with Paula, and Nicole, and Simon, and L.A. Just getting to know
them as people, and also getting to hear a lot of good feedback. Really
great people on the show. It was an incredible journey.
Have you watched any episodes of this season of The X Factor? What
do you think about the new contestants?
Yeah. I think it’s cool. I think it’s interesting. I want
to see when they go to the judges’ houses, I want to see what
happens there. I missed some of the episodes, but I went on YouTube
and saw some cool stuff.
Tell us a little bit about the new album you have coming out.
The album is going to be insane. It’s called I’m Right
Here, and I have a lot of music on there. A lot of beautiful music
on there. I’m excited. I can’t wait until everyone gets
to hear it. You’re gonna rock out with me.
How does your family feel about your career?
My family is very proud of me. They think I’m doing a great
thing here. Life is beautiful, and my kids are good. I have two sons,
one’s seven and one’s four. We’re a good family.
We have fun.
Who inspires you the most?
My mom. Yeah, my mom. She’s awesome.
What has been your most memorable live show experience?
There have been a lot. Minneapolis was awesome, Boise, Idaho, was
crazy, L.A. was awesome. Santa Cruz was probably the best one though,
because all my people were there. It was super insane. Crazy Renelians
everywhere. These people travel from far, far away. There have been
so many shows where people are taking flights, they’re following
me around to all the shows. From state to state. It’s an exciting
and an inspiring experience to see that, how many true fans I have
out there. How many true Renelians I have out there. Renelians, yeah.
You know what, you’re going to become a Renelian after October
If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would
Do you have any pre-performance rituals?
I just pray. To the Creator, to the Great Spirit, to be guided.
What’s next for you?
I have a world takeover starting October 2nd. Chris Rene takes over.
That’s my plan. I can’t give you all the details on where
the tour’s going to be, but we’ll see what happens.
