RTW

How was Red Sun Rising formed and when?

MP

Ryan and Myself started the band around 2007 in Akron, OH. Basically wrote music for a year or two then really started playing out in NE Ohio around 2009 and built up a pretty solid fan base before starting to book our own tour independently regionally and then eventually nationally.

RTW

What was the inspiration behind your latest single "Deathwish"?

MP

The song is about self fullfilling prophecies and the pygmalion effect and how these can really hinder one from living a life of true concious freedom.

RTW

How will the new album differ from Polyester Zeal?

MP

We aimed for a more raw sound that is more authentic to the band's live sound. We are a band that is 100% live and that rawness needed to be captured on a record. We also experimented a lot more with tones, effects and different instruments to give each song a unique identity that differs from song to song. This goes along with our "Thread" mentality to our song writing where each song is different from the last and is genre bending not binding.

RTW

If you could describe your new album in 5 words, what would they be?

MP

Eclectic, Lively, Melodic, Textured, Inviting

RTW

Who are your biggest musical influences?

MP

Personally - Soundgarden, The Beatles, A Perfect Circle, Alice in Chains, STP, Queen. list goes on and on. The idea of calling our music "Thread" is to utilize influences from many genres and eras of music. Although these listed is a sample of maybe the influences most apparent there is so many more that create the nuances and intricacies of our songwriting.

RTW

Your thoughts on the music industry today and making it as a band?

MP

It's still figuring out what it wants to be so as a musician and an artist you just need to stay true to yourself.

RTW

Tell us a little bit about the Red Sun Rising's journey as a band?

MP

Its been long and jurassic. A lot of years being independent and grinding it out. And we are still grinding it out. But we believe in our art so we are proud of everything we've done.

RTW

Where is your favorite town/venue to play and why?

MP

Its ever-changing. Every time we think we had the show of our lives there's another one around the corner. The people at the shows really have a lot to do with that too. A great crowd can make a not so memorable venue or town seem magical and memorable.

RTW

What was your most meaningful song to record and why?

MP

For me it was both "Stealing Life" and "Left For Dead." "Stealing Life" was inspired by 2 friends and a hero who took their own lives. And "Left for Dead" is basically about growing up and not really having a father around and what that can do to a family.

RTW

Tell us and your fans anything you would like us to know.

MP

Although these answers seem serious we love laughing more than anything. We take our art serious but not ourselves. We love hearing fans sing back to us live so come out and see a show.
