It’s not every day that a group of five extremely adorable—and talented—young guys get on stage at Splash. Well, at least not the kind that make up the new boy band MIDNIGHT?RED. “Gay clubs are awesome because everyone likes to have fun, dance and be themselves,” says Thomas Augusto, the spiky-haired 21-year-old of the group. Though bandmate Joey Diggs Jr, whose dad belted out Coca-Cola’s “Always” jingle, admits that as a Los Angeles native he hasn’t gotten to spend much time in New York, he says he and the rest of the band “are looking to make some memories when we are there.”But with a host of other boy bands already on the scene, what sets this group of guys apart? “In some aspects we are the same,” Diggs admits. “What sets us apart in this generation’s mix of boy bands is that we sing and dance. Most of the other boy bands are not incorporating dance into their shows.” —Midnight Red performs at Dougie Meyer Presents: Saturday at Splash, 50 W 17th St (btwn Fifth/Sixth Aves), Sep 22 at 10pm; cover varies.
