The Pretty Reckless have come a long way in their six-year journey through the metal landscape and this headlining turn at the House of Blues really cemented just how far the band has come.  Before we delve into their set – let’s talk a little about the supporting acts.

Another set change and then it was time for the headliner – The Pretty Reckless.  Taylor Momsen fronts this quartet of rockers.  Momsen, of course,  has been on the entertainment scene for many years.  I remember being first exposed to her immense talent when she played Cindy Lou in Ron Howards live action version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas – she then went on to super stardom as a part of the uber popular TV Show Gossip Girl and then in 2010 she turned to metal music and The Pretty Reckless was born.  I’ve followed this band since its inception and this show and in particular – the songs from their new album Who You Selling For – show some immense growth in the band.

dsc_1260Hitting the stage with one of their signature songs – Follow Me Down – the band sounded better than I have ever heard them sound.  Momsen was on fire – literally attacking the lyrics – her vocals were clear and strong and not overwhelmed by the thundering sound of her band mates.  The sold out crowd threw energy at the stage and the band seemed to swallow it up and dish it back fivefold.  A 12 song barrage of old hits and new work kept the crowd dancing in the aisles and involved in every word being sung and every note being played.  We got our first taste of new music as their third selection of the night – Oh My God – a frantic, heavier sound that really showed off how this band has grown musically  – a riveting performance that set the tone for the remainder of the show.

As expected the crowd went bat shit crazy for Heaven Knows and the set ended with one of the songs off the new album Who You Selling For – Take Me Down is destined to be a hit – mark my words, we’ll be talking about this song in the near future.

The band came back for one encore – and what an encore it was.  Fucked Up World closed the night and you could tell the crowd was blowing off some steam.  It had been a stressful week for many – and this song was the ultimate middle finger to things beyond our control.  A perfect ending to a perfect show.

The Pretty Reckless is growing into something special – their new album, ‘Who You Selling For’; shows amazing growth and more importantly – their live show is tight and loud and polished to a point near perfection.  When they play near you – and they are on tour throughout the fall – make a point to be standing in that audience – you will not regret it.

Head on over to their official site and check out when they’ll be where when.
