Pentatonix Get Into The Holiday Spirit With New Release ‘PTXmas’

November 13, 2012 3:05 PM

Many fans know the vocal group Pentatonix (or PTX) as the winners of season three on the hit NBC singing competition show The Sing-Off, and now The WAVE is pleased to have this talented Texan quintuplet added in the lineup for 94.7 The WAVE’s Christmas Concert starring Dave Koz and Kenny Loggins at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live!

Pentatonix includes vocalists Scott Hoying (baritone), Kirstie Maldonado (soprano alto), Mitch Grassi (tenor), Avi Kaplan (bass) and Kevin Olusola (beat boxer), and they all joined Pat Prescott in studio to talk about the Christmas Concert and the release of their brand new Christmas EP PTXmas, out today.

After winning the last season of The Sing-Off, PTX’s popularity quickly soared, especially in the online community where the use of social media has played a key role in bringing them closer with fans.

“I feel like social media is one of the hugest things about our success,” said Avi. “You can really take it in your own hands, find your fanbase and really promote yourself that way.”

“You can be yourself on social media, too,” added Mitch. “It gives your fans a chance to really get to know you.”

Currently in the midst of a national tour that includes sold out shows in big cities like New York, Atlanta and Chicago, PTX has been overwhelmed by the amount of support their fans have shown them.

“It’s been surreal to know that we get to meet the people that have supported us from day one and sing to them,” said Kevin. “It’s really an amazing feeling to know that we can live our dream every single day because of the people who are in the audience.”

“I’ve seen a lot of scary movies, I’ve been to a lot of haunted houses, but nothing is honestly as thrilling than standing in front of a crowd and performing for people,” added Scott.

Dealing with life on the road can sometimes get in the way of having any sort of personal life, but for this close-knit group, spending time on tour helps build their bonds with each other, plus gives them extra time to rehearse in between shows.

As the lone girl of the group, Kirstie says the boys are like her brothers and they luckily all approve of her boyfriend, who she also met while on The Sing-Off. With a hectic tour schedule, Kirstie adds that being in a long distance relationship is hard, but finds ways to make it work.

“It’s a struggle every day…you can make it work if you set your priorities, but I also set time for everything else that’s important in my life,” said Kirstie on how she manages a long distance relationship.

Pentatonix will be taking the stage on December 16th as part of 94.7 The WAVE’s Christmas Concert starring Dave Koz and Kenny Loggins at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, but if you can’t wait to hear new music from this a Capella sensation, you can get their new Christmas album PTXmas now!
