There’s nothing we
love more than a good cover of our favorite song; whether it’s
Taylor Swift‘s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,”
Maroon 5‘s “Payphone,” or Nicki Minaj‘s “Starships,”
we’re always looking for the latest greatest cover!
The fabulous five-some
who won NBC‘s “The Sing-Off” in the fall of 2011
originated in Texas, where Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado and Mitch
Grassi grew up together. They added to the group YouTube sensation,
cello player, and beat boxer Kevin Olusola, and bass singer Avi Kaplan,
who was recommended to them as the guy who ‘could sing lower
than any human being, ever.’ Now the trophy winning five-some
are stationed in California, where they record, write and produce.
They have toured around the country, and even the world.
You could say this group have the good looks of Katy Perry, and the swag of the Biebs. And speaking of the two, check out a fan clip of the mash-up “As Long As You Love Me/ Wide Awake” below!
They also sang the new
song off of their E.P “PTX Vol. 1” called “The Baddest
Girl,” and asked fans to help them with their music video by
having the entire crowd record and send in the performance! This accompanied
a promise that their video could be a part of their upcoming video.
The groups performance
at The Roxy comes during the same week that they all attended the
“Pitch Perfect” premiere. Of the premiere and the movie’s
influence on A Cappella music, Avi said, “We met almost all
the stars from the movie, and loved them! Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow,
Adam Devine just to name a few. The movie is hilarious and we feel
it will bring A Cappella even more to the mainstream which is always
amazing. Hopefully there will be a Pitch Perfect 2!” Maybe we’ll
even see them in the cast? Avi adds that though it is hard work, the
group “wouldn’t change it for the world. [We are] so blessed.”
