A cappella quintet Pentatonix have enjoyed a meteoric rise to success since winning NBC’s “The Sing Off” in 2011. With more than 6 million subscribers to their official YouTube channel (and 520 cumulative views), it seems the sky’s the limit for this talented vocal ensemble.

Those numbers figure to spike even more with the release of latest EP “PTX Vol. 3,” which finds Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan and Kevin “K.O.” Olusola serving up a nice blend of modern pop covers and original tunes. As ever, Pentatonix make every song their own on a seven-track release that showcases the group’s tremendous vocal range.

Pentatonix score with a trio of originals (“On My Home,” “See Through” and “Standing By”) and covers of Ariana Grande & Iggy Azalea (“Problem”), Clean Bandit (“Rather Be”) and Stromae (the French language “Papaoutai” featuring violinist Lindsey Stirling). The best of the bunch is “La La Latch,” a dynamic mash up of Sam Smith hits “Latch” and “La La La.” If you like a cappella music, Pentatonix need to be a big part of your record collection.
