The Popdust Files: music, pentatonix, videos

You’d be hard pressed to find a more talented a capella force than Pentatonix—whose outstanding cover videos have almost come to be expected. But for their latest concoction, a blistering cover of the holiday classic “Mary Did You Know,” The Sing-Off champs outdo themselves. Not only is it the best vocal the group has ever delivered, ever, but the official video is some of their most haunting, visually captivating yet.

Unlike many of the group’s performances, each vocalist—Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Avi Kaplan, Kirstin Maldonado and Kevin Olusola—has a moment to shine, ultimately becoming one of the most daring, chilling arrangements of their career. The track is lifted from PTX’s most recent That’s Christmas To Me EP (our review here), which bowed in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. Also this fall, the group dropped their third non-holiday project, PTX: Vol III, featuring such covers as Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea‘s “Problem” and Clean Bandit‘s “Rather Be” (you can read our review).
