Pentatonix Releases PTX Volume 1
The Debut EP Release of Pentatonix
Pentatonix, the season 3 winners of the NBC a cappella singing competition series, The Sing-Off, released their debut EP, “PTX Volume 1,” today on Madison Gate Records via iTunes.
Rollingstone.com stated the five-member band, have a “impossibly full sound”. The funny name for the group stems from the five-note musical scale. The group is comprised of lead vocalists Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying and Kirstie Maldonado with vocal bass by Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin Olusola, each who arrange all their own music using only their vocals as instruments.
The five-member group floored the The Sing-Off competetion. Their a capella music was modern with influences from several musical genres, including dubstep and electronica, which set them apart from the rest.Their debut EP includes a cappella covers of some of pop music’s biggest hits like “Starships” (Nicki Minaj) and “Love You Long Time” (Jazmine Sullivan) as well as two original tracks “The Baddest Girl” and “Show You How To Love.” “This EP features a wide collection of music that we feel demonstrates the unique sound we create together,” said Scott of Pentatonix. “Our experience on The Sing-Off helped us discover what we are capable of as a group and this EP illustrates our growth since we first came together just one year ago for the show.” “What Pentatonix creates is simply magic,” said Shelly Bunge, Executive at Madison Gate Records. “Separately, each member of Pentatonix is a very talented artist, but together, they create arrangements and harmonies that are uniquely their own.
Since being crowned champs on The Sing Off, the band relocated to Los Angeles. They’ve performed as an opening act for CeeLo Green and with Chris Brown at the NBA All-Star game in February. They’ve continued to build their online fan base havng been championed by, Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton, and began covering some of the more popular tracks on the charts. They released video covers on their YouTube channel, garnering almost 15 million views and 125,000 subscribers.
Pentatonix will begin a fall tour to support the EP, and they’ll begin announcing tour dates soon.
