When I interviewed Pentatonix's Kirstie Maldonado and Mitch Grassi via e-mail recently to advance their March 13 show at House of Blues Dallas, I asked if the Arlington-born a cappella group (co-founded by Maldonado, Grassi and Scott Hoying, all Arlington Martin High grads) had heard from a cappella purists about the occasional use of instrumentation in their songs.

Grassi and Maldonado, who responded separately, said that the only time the group uses instrumentation is when it collaborates with another artist -- as is the case with their latest video, in which Pentatonix teams with "hip-hop violinist" Lindsey Stirling, who's a YouTube star and a former America's Got Talent finalist.

It's the group's most elaborate video yet, a cover of Imagine Dragons' Radioactive that not only features Stirling on violin, but Pentatonix's beatboxing Kevin Olusola on cello -- and still beatboxing.

Pentatonix keeps rolling -- after Wednesday's Dallas show, they have a couple of gigs during SXSW showcases this weekend. And they've even caught the attention of finance magazine Forbes, thanks to their marketing savvy and budget-conscious touring -- and their playing a set inside the Forbes newsroom. Clips of that performance are within the Forbes link; Radioactive is below.
