Hollywood Bowl opened in the 1920's and has hosted some of the most memorable concerts in the history of music. Everyone from The Beatles to The Doors have graced the stage of this 17,000 plus seat outdoor Amphitheater. On a typical Southern California evening on October 12th a massive amount of rock fans beat the freeway traffic to gather for a special evening of rock n roll. Thirty Seconds To Mars, Panic! At the Disco, and New Politics came together for what would be another historic evening in Hollywood Bowl concert history.Warming up the stage was New Politics, a rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark. The trio was full with energy throughout their whole short set as they performed their popular songs like “Yeah Yeah Yeah” and “Harlem”. The highlight was when the singer David Boyd went off stage into the audience and started dancing with fans including a young kid that David pulled from the audience to dance with him. After dancing with the crowd, he made the stage into a dance floor with several break dancing moves, with flips, cartwheels, and including an armless headstand. After the show, the band met up with some fans at their merchandise table and signed some autographs. You can tell that this band was truly dedicated to their fans!

Up next was Panic! At the Disco, a rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Opening with, appropriately, “It’s Time to Dance”, the band started out with an energizing set that got the audience moving. Brendon Urie was the “Jack of All Trades” as he played multiple instruments plus belted out clean vocals and interacted with the crowd. The band was added on late to the roster so they were a big treat for the audience especially to those that were not expecting it.

It was finally time for a band that needs no introductions, Thirty Seconds to Mars. Representing their home town of Los Angeles, this a first time the band played at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, and what a show it was! This has got to be one of the most high production shows that I have witnessed in a long time! They opened up their set with the drum styling of the Taiko Drummers and closed out with a premier of the short film/music video for the single “City of Angels” featuring tons of celebrities (Kanye West, James Franco, Lindsay Lohan, and many others). During the mid-set break by the band, the acrobats performed flips on a see-saw on stage. This created a perfect diversion for Jared Leto to roam towards the audience in the back where he performed a few acoustic songs such as “The Kill”. You can tell that Jared was very dedicated to this show when half way into his acoustic set he stated that he was sick but didn’t care because he wanted to perform for his fans. He wrapped up his acoustic set and walked through the audience back to the stage where he joined his band singing a cover of Rihanna’s “Stay”. After the “City of Angels” short film the Thirty Seconds to Mars came back to finish with an encore performance, the band welcomed members from the audience onstage while they all sang the latest single from their new album “Up in the Air”. As fans filed out of Hollywood Bowl one thing was clear in the cool fall air, this was a night fans would not soon forget.
