ALLENTOWN MORNING CALL
|Return to Lee DeWyze||
Top 5 Concerts of the Coming Week
February 15, 2018
If any “American Idol” ever got a raw deal, it was Lee DeWyze.
DeWyze probably was the best male winner the show ever had, but after mediocre talents David Cook and Kris Allen won before him, DeWyze got lumped in with them and faced backlash from those who wanted a female winner in Crystal Bowersox. Despite a Top 20 debut disc, “Live It Up,” and strong first single “Sweet Serendipity,” his record label dropped him.
Eight years later, DeWyze’s “Blackbird Song” was used on the TV’s “Walking Dead,” and on FridayFeb.16 releases his third album since then, “Paranoia.” Its first single, “The Breakdown,” is more haunting than anything any other male “Idol” winner ever did. DeWyze is still around because he’s that talented.
8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, with Frank Viele, Sellersville Theater 1894, 24 W. Temple Ave. Sellersville. Tickets: $20 (other areas unavailable); $60 VIP with meet-and-greet, www.st94.com, 215-257-5808.
