San Antonio, Texas indie rock trio Girl in a Coma returns with a new full-length CD, Trio B.C., on Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records on June 2, 2009. “ We chose Trio B.C. as the album title because it was the name of our grandfathers tejano band way back ina the 50s. He was our first musical influence . He would play us guitar and sing and we would love to watch him in the garage with a cold beer in his hand playing his records and sing along like he meant it. His passion is our inspiration. We hope to make people feel that way about our music.”

Prior to the release of Trio B.C., a two-song digital and vinyl release titled Hiding My Trail will be issued on April 21 featuring the songs “Only I” and “A Conversation.”

Trio B.C. includes tracks produced by Joan Jett & Kenny Laguna (“Vino,” “Joannie In The City” featuring Joan Jett on guitar and background vocals and “Davey” which will be an iTunes Bonus track), Gabe Gonzales, formerly of Sparta, currently of Sleepercar, as well as Greg Collins (U2, No Doubt). Greg Collins also mixed Trio B.C. , the follow up to 2007’s Both Before I’m Gone, which spawned the single “Clumsy Sky” that won the Independent Music Award for Best Punk Song. Both Before I’m Gone also reached No. 23 on Billboard Magazine’s Heatseekers chart and No. 21 on iTunes.

Trio B.C. will also feature the first song Girl in a Coma has recorded in Spanish. “Ven Cerca,” originally performed by Los Spitfires is a song sung so passionately by Julissa” quips lead singer/songwriter Nina Diaz. “I thought that I can’t sing that and do her justice! So, I took that song as a challenge and it ended up being one we love playing live.”

The band – sisters Nina (singer/guitarist) and Phanie Diaz (drummer) and Jenn Alva (bassist) -- has also received rave reviews from the press and celebrities including LA Weekly, which wrote: “Within the first few seconds of the first song, ‘Clumsy Sky’… singer-guitarist Nina Diaz has already introduced herself as a charismatic singer with a big, beautiful voice that’s somewhere between the maternal comfort of Chrissie Hynde and the ghostly power of Siouxsie Sioux.” And, Janes Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro calls GIAC “my favorite new band.”

Girl in a Coma debuted select tracks from Trio B.C. at SXSW to sold-out venues on March 18, 19 and 20. National tour dates begin May 29 in their hometown of San Antonio and will run thru the Fall. The band has previously toured with Morrissey, Tegan & Sara, the Pogues, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Social Distortion, Frank Black, Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Tour and on the Vans Warped Tour.
