Return to Girl In A Coma

Girl In A Coma and The Sick Puppies - "Two Bands That Should Fill Yankee Stadium... But Don't...Yet"

Bands You Need To Know
Girl in a Coma - Sick Puppies
Music is a subjective art. One man's Beehtoven is another man's Tiny Tim. Over the past couple of years we've seen over 1,000 bands perform, from the A-List to the "what's a list?". Two bands have stood out this year, and have made our "Two Bands That Should Be Playing Yankee Stadium... But Aren't...Yet" list. These are two bands that struck a chord with us. Two bands that have that special something that sets them apart from the multitude of talented artists in this world. They may not have all the hype, all the pyro, all the radio airplay... but they have all the talent, passion and charisma to be on any stage and win over any crowd in an instant.

Girl In A Coma

These three girls from San Antonio, Texas take your breath away live. Girl In A Coma consists of sisters Nina and Phanie Diaz and bassist Jenn Alva who are currently on tour supporting their current release "Both Before I'm Gone" and are a product of Joan Jett's Blackheart Records. You would think Joan Jett and her legendary partner/producer Kenny Laguna would be able to identify talent... and you'd be correct.

Lead singer Nina Diaz has previously been compared to both Bjork and Morrissey. If you're looking for some historical benchmarks you can go there... but Girl In A Coma melds a far wider range of influences into a sound that's fresh, unique and deserves to be called their own. Diaz's unique, sweet and powerful voice is comfortable regardless of the tempo as she sings classic lyrics such "tattooed lovers don't like to reminisce" "Both Before I'm Gone" grows on you as with repeated listens the nuances and subtletie reveal themselves. A very special album from a very special band. The only thing better is to hear them live.
