Return to Girl In A Coma

Girl In A Coma Interview

Girl In A Coma are an original sounding new three-piece band hailing from San Antonio, Texas. Jenn (bass) and Phanie (drums) were just two high school kids who knew they had to be in a band, but weren't sure how they were going to pull it off until Phanie's younger sister Nina turned out to be a great singer who also had surreptitiously developed guitar and songwriting skills that would help make the band complete.

They have a distinctive sound that's been attracting praise from both critics and fans - influences include The Smiths and Radiohead. In the past six years they've played scores of headlining shows at home and on tour, and have also opened for an impressive and diverse list of bands including The Pogues, Frank Black and the Catholics, theSTART, The Epoxies, The Eyeliners, The Groovie Ghoulies, Brassy and The Smoking Popes. Their recent appearance at the 2007 SXSW Music Festival helped reinforce the band's growing critical buzz.

In 2006, Girl in a Coma happened to appear in the pilot episode of a national documentary TV series on up and coming Latino bands. That appearance eventually led to the girls meeting Joan Jett and Kenny Laguna, who were very impressed. They signed with Blackheart Records shortly thereafter.

Girl In A Coma has written a large number of songs over the past few years - so many, in fact, that sorting through them all to form the track list for their first album was a major ordeal. The band did eventually manage to sift through that extensive catalog and then recorded the cream of the crop for their debut album "Both Before I'm Gone" released nationwide on May 1st, 2007.
