Return to Girl In A Coma

Girl in a Coma Shakes Loose

Joan Jett's `Girl' polishes the sound that all started with The Smiths.

What a difference a few years makes.

It wasn't long after sisters Nina, Phanie Diaz and Jenn Alva - collectively known as Girl In a Coma - saw the band's debut album Both Before I'm Gone released in 2007 by Joan Jett's Blackheart Records that the buzz about the San Antonio-based indie rockers started and Morrissey himself was calling.

Girl in a Coma - which adapted its name from The Smith's song "Girlfriend in a Coma" stepped into Morrissey's 2007 tour opening slot and gigs with The Pogues, Tegan and Sara and Social Distortion and others followed.

Now comes the band's sophomore album Trio B.C. with songs that ramp up the band's signature, guitar-heavy sound (no doubt thanks to guest duties by such heavy hitters as co-producer Jett) combined with stronger, more mature vocals from lead singer Nina, which some find reminiscent of Siouxsie Sioux.

Trio B.C. may be named after the ‘50s tejano band the members' grandfather fronted but the music's all about rocking out in modern times.

Watch for an EP Hiding My Trail on April 21 and the album on June 2. Tour news will follow.
