Return to Girl In A Coma

Girl in a Coma awakening for Tucson gig

Joan Jett loves rock 'n' roll, and she loves Girl in a Coma, too.
The San Antonio female trio made its debut on Jett's Blackheart Records label this year.
The band's biography compares lead singer Nina Diaz's voice to that of Björk, but we hear more Avril Lavigne, which isn't a bad thing.

The group's music can run from poppy-punk to spiraling moody ballads — in the vein of the band's hero, Morrissey. The trio's name was inspired by The Smiths' catchy 1987 song "Girlfriend in a Coma."

Is it a coincidence or just good tour scheduling that Moz will be playing the Tucson Music Hall the night after Coma's performance Wednesday at Solar Culture?

Opening for Girl in a Coma will be Tucson's own The Thesis at 9 p.m.. Tickets are $7. Solar Culture is at 31 E. Toole Ave.
