Return to Girl In A Coma

GIRL IN A COMA

Why you should care: This fiery female trio melds the power of earlier punk styles with new-millennium attitude and style. And they're signed to Joan Jett's label, Blackheart Records.

Reminds us of ... The Smiths (the band takes it name from that band's '80s classic "Girlfriend in a Coma") and Siouxsie and the Banshees fed through the Pixies punk shredder.

Why the kids love them: Girls want rocking role models, too.

What they say: LA Weekly calls singer-guitarist Nina Diaz "a charismatic singer with a big, beautiful voice that's somewhere between the maternal comfort of Chrissie Hynde and the ghostly power of Siouxsie Sioux."
