Nine years after Anna Nicole Smith died from a drug overdose, Margaret Cho is paying tribute to her dear friend.
In a new music video titled "Anna Nicole," the 47-year-old comedian honors Smith.
Anna Nicole, who suffered from postpartum depression, passed away at 39 shortly after her 20-year-old son Daniel died from a deadly combo of prescription drugs. The tragedy happened just days after she gave birth to her daughter,Dannielynn.
Cho opened up about her friend's final days in Sirius XM's Conversations with Maria Menounos.
"I think that her grief was overwhelming," she said. "So it has to do with some postpartum depression, some overwhelming guilt that her son had died. They both had an issue with prescription painkillers and different drugs like that. I don't know if there's anybody that's necessarily at fault."
The Fashion Police co-host then went on to describe some more devastating details about what happened when the Guess model learned of her son's death.
"I know it took them four hours to pry her off of his body. She wouldn't allow him to be buried, she just had to be next to him and near him," said Cho. "I couldn't even picture it. I don't have a child, so I don't know what that would feel like."
When Smith died away in 2007, Cho used her blog as a platform to express her grief.
"I hope that she is happy now, where she is. It is easy to picture her there, riding the clouds, her young son at her side, a million miles above the paparazzi and the tabloids, the gossip columns. I hope she feels thin, and nothing is bugging her, and that she doesn't have any more doubts or worries. Only puppies and kisses and love. Because she deserves that."
