Capital Cities

Last week the LA based group known as Capital Cities gave one of the best live performances I’ve seen all year. The sold out crowd packed into the intimate Irving Plaza that was just big enough for us to do “The Shuffle”, the group’s signature dance that even rhythmically challenged folks can pull off.

It was a fun time to say the least. My legs were killing me from doing CrossFit the night before, yet I found myself dancing all over the room which had turned into a 1980s dance party. I’m also a sucker for jazz influences in other genres of music.

This Trumpet Player was Beasting

Band members Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian started out as jingle writers in LA and found each other on Craigslist. They released an EP back in 2011, available on iTunes and Spotify, but be on the look out for their new album In a Tidal Wave of Mystery due out June 4th via Capitol Records.

I highly recommend seeing them live and they are on quite the tour this year so you don’t have much of an excuse.

Check ‘em out.
