Meet the Logo30: Bob the Drag Queen

"My existence is resistance."
by  6/17/2020

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2020 Logo30. This powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to view current and past honorees.

“Every day is Pride, and every day is Black History Month.”

Those wise words come from drag icon and television host Bob the Drag Queen, who spoke to Logo and NewNowNext about how she celebrates Pride “year-round.”

The out performer is best known for winning Season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2016. Since then, she’s gone on to co-host and star in series like Netflix’s 2019 Tales of the City reboot; Bob The Drag Queen: Crazy Black Lady, her televised comedy special; and Sibling Rivalry, her podcast with fellow Drag Race alum Monét X-Change.

Most recently, Bob starred alongside Shangela and Eureka O’Hara in We’re Here, a new docuseries from HBO. The critically acclaimed series sees the three queens do drag makeovers on people from small-town U.S.A., turning looks and changing attitudes everywhere they go.

Asked how she’s expressed her Pride in the past year, Bob was frank: “Look at me! I’m a Black, queer, nonbinary person marching through the streets of every town—from here [New York City] to Oslo, Norway, to Sydney and Perth, Australia—so my existence is resistance.”

You heard it here purse first, folks!
