Interview with David Archuleta

We loved watching David Archuleta on American Idol where he was the runner-up on season 7, so it was a blast to chat with him and learn more about this talented artist! He’s getting ready to head out on a North American tour and you can catch him at Daryl’s House on March 22nd & at Infinity Hall Norfolk on March 29th. Read on!

Your upcoming North American tour starts on March 21st. What most excites you about touring?

I am most excited about creating a moment each night for people to connect to. I just love singing. I admit it’s hard for me to feel motivated to be in front of others as I’m self-conscious but each time I eventually get to that moment on stage to sing it’s like everyone connects to the same feeling I get to experience (the feeling that is the reason I love singing) and it’s like a window from the sky opens up and showers over all of us. Don’t know how to explain it, but I love that feeling and creating moments that can reach a deeper part of people.

What’s one piece of advice you wish you could tell your “younger” self now?

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean that it’s wrong, nor does it mean that you shouldn’t trust yourself.

Who is your life hero?

Family is easy to turn to because they are who you’re most around and strive to be there for you isn’t it? One of those for me is my mom. She has believed in me without making me feel like if I don’t reach a certain expectation in a disappointment. She gives me space because she feels she trusts me. She is a woman of faith and has always shown me to look up to God for answers. That has been the best guidance and lifesaver for me.

Next thing on your bucket list?

I’d love to go to Sweden to write. They have a unique writing style of pop music and I feel I’d learn a lot.

If you could record a duet with anyone, who would it be?

I’d love to duet with Tori Kelly or Jordin Sparks sometime.

What do you bring on tour that you can’t live without?

My phone. It’s my music, my books, my alarm. Lol

What’s on your playlist right now? We want to know what you’re listening to!

I love Jonathan McReynolds, Hillsong, Lauren Daigle… I love the Atlas series by Sleeping At Last. And, I also love this Jazz/Funk/Orchestral album Jacob Collier did called Djesse (vol. 1).

When you’re not performing/singing/songwriting, what can we find you doing?

You’d find me driving around looking for places to eat with the help of the Yelp! app.

Finish the sentence: Success is …

When you make a conscious effort to keep pushing forward regardless of the circumstances.
